The wind whipped around outside, the remnants of hurricane Matthew brought cool air into the region just the day before. A stream of joyful family and friends lined the streets as they made their way to the bride’s home for the Tea Ceremony. Gifts covered in beautiful red fabric were held carefully by Lauryn and Cong’s family and guests. Pop, pop…pop!! Ear-piercing firecrackers went off in front of the house, filling the air with smoke. A beautiful ornate red sign written in Vietnamese swung overhead, welcoming all inside. One by one their family, the wedding party and close friends entered, quickly filling the living room and kitchen. The air buzzed with excitement as everyone waited for the bride to appear. She descended the stairs gracefully, and made her way to the front wearing a beautiful, traditional red wedding dress, highlighted by bright yellow slacks, matching Cong’s outfit perfectly. A request was made to the bride’s family for permission to take the bride home. Shortly after, both sets of parents were honored as Lauryn and Cong presented them with a tea ceremony. Words of wisdom from the family’s elders were made about marriage. As the formalities drew to an end, everyone cheered for the new couple, excited for the celebration ahead, and for the union of two best friends now united in a lovely marriage!
